Mineral Processing

Steri-flow ® metallic membrane filters have been selected for extensive separation trialling within the North American mineral processing industry. The industry has been searching for a cost effective and robust technology to remove mineral particulate from plant waste water and thus providing an alternate source of water for utilisation across various operational functions. The solid construction of the Steri-flow ® filter ensures it is suitable for extensive use with industrial filtration applications.

Pulp & Paper
Steri-flow ® technology, after successful batch trials, has moved into the next phase of site trials to reduce the environmental impact of pulp mill effluent at a trial site with “tissue giant” Kimberly Clark. Part of the processed effluent stream is intended for re-use within the operations while the goal for the balance of the flow is to exceed the requirements of the planned phase in of much stricter EPA controls being introduced over the next 5 years and ensuring it fulfils its commitments to the local community and environment.

Fruit Juice Concentrate
To increase market share through operating cost reductions and improved product quality, a major North American food processor has been trialling the Steri-flow ® stainless steel crossflow microfilter within its fruit juice concentration processes and for chemical recovery within their CIP (Clean in Place) operation. Evaluation on various points within the process is continuing.

Product Recovery – Spent Grape Marc
Tandou wines in South Australia’s Riverland district has installed an innovative multi-million dollar process to extract high quality natural components from what would have been solids waste generated in the production of wine. Key to the operational success of this process was the implementation of Steri-flow’s microfiltration technical and operational knowledge to complement the overall process jointly developed by Tandou and its partners.

Australia Exports to the French Wine Industry
Steri-flow ® has reversed the trend of winery equipment being produced in Europe and supplied into the new world wineries of Australia. Pictured is our first export of a winery site trial filter system which will be put through its paces this vintage in the south of France. The French wine makers are extremely keen to work with the Steri-flow ® filter as it will bring to them in one technology, a wine filter, for both reds and whites, a membrane filter capable of processing tank bottoms and lees, a juice filter and if required, a winery effluent filter.

Bird in Hand

Steri-flow ® has supplied a winery waste filter to the boutique Adelaide Hills winery, Bird in Hand. This is a significant installation, as the Adelaide Hill region has been the most heavily regulated region for winery development due to it being an integral part of the water catchment to reservoirs servicing the city of Adelaide with a population of over 1 million people.

Bench Trial Units

Steri-flow ® has supplied simple bench trial metallic membrane microfilters to the independent food process development organisation, Food Science Australia, while also supplying to process development engineers working within the North American ethanol industry. These trial units, which can have their stainless steel membranes quickly changed over, varying characteristics such as pore size, are utilised within process development laboratories to ensure the best selection and matching of membranes for each application.

Alkali Industry

Ready to ship, Steri-flow ® has just completed the manufacture of a highly efficient dual train micro-filter system to be implemented into a major sodium bi-carbonate producer’s process stream. The filter with a specially designed 0.2 micron membrane will operate 24/7 on a process stream running at 85 degrees Celsius with a pH above 12. The Steri-flow ® membrane, operating in “surface mode” retains a host of process impurities which are simply back-flushed out on a regular basis while maintaining full plant production. The robustness of the Steri-flow ® metallic membrane and Steri-flow’s ability to custom produce membranes to provide high-end performance makes this solution unique to industry.
